Wood Shim Wreath (Updated!)

The Wood Shim Wreath is simple, inexpensive, and versatile enough to work for a variety of decor styles and in all seasons. Plus, with a few minor twists, anyone can put their own spin on it!

This is, by far, one of my most popular tutorials. I want to thank you all for your continued interest! This was originally posted on my Anna K. Originals website. It's the same great wreath tutorial, with a few minor updates.

Supplies:

1. Lay down your drop cloth on your work surface. For extra protection, lay down a plastic trash bag first.

2. Without gluing, begin to place your shims on the wreath form. I like to align the edge of my shims with the inner edge of the wreath form (as pictured below).

3. Once you’re happy with your shim arrangement, start hot glueing the shims to your form. Be careful not to burn your fingertips!

  • I found it easiest to tilt the shims up just enough to squeeze hot glue underneath.

Tilt shims up to add glue under them. Please excuse my obviously well-used hot glue gun. :)

 4. Next, stain or paint your wreath. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow to dry.  Coat with your choice of sealant. A matte finish clear enamel spray paint works well.

  • Don’t like paint or stain? Then leave your wreath naked and unashamed with a quick coat of clear sealer!

**Optional Step** - Turn your wreath over and glue down a bent can tab. This is one way to add a hanger, if you need to.

Now, you can hang it up and enjoy!

If you make your own Wood Shim Wreath and share it on social media, use the tag #woodshimwreath. I really like to see what other folks do with their wreaths and how they put their own spin on them. :)
